good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen,
my topic today is never lose the vision of reality. talking about dreams and future, i would say, dreams should never be too far away from reality. detaching from reality, lacking solid or practical actions, any future plan or dream project will be nothing short of daydreaming, or, at most well-intentioned thinking. here i am reminded the year of 20__, when 191 member states of the united nations held a world summit conference, which made a declaration known as the millennium development goals. the goals of 20__, which every member state pledged to meet, were such as, elimination of hunger and poverty, drastic reduction in child mortality rates, reversing a spread of aids and other deadly diseases, etc. now, si_ years later, almost half way to the final year of 20__, do we see any signs of realizing these goalstoday, half the world- about three billion people, still live under two u.s. dollars a day; about 270 million children have no access to safe water, 11 million children die before they reach the age of five each year. do we come to harness the spread of the aidsthe answer is also "no"- and indeed aids is spreading faster and wider than ever before. what is even worse, with the wake of the iraqi war, the nuclear crisis in iran and unsettled situations in many places, the visions of us young people today are often limited- but the limited vision (that) we do have and care about every day
cannot change the conviction that this world does not seem to promise a very bright future before us. who is to blame for all thisof course, we can blame the government: how they… disappointing they all seem to be: in one moment they are pledging to build a better future for us, and the other moment they’re igniting wars, killing more innocent people. but don’t you think we ordinary folks should also take some responsibilities for, say, elimination of hunger and povertywhen we are quickly rushing to schools, works, or places of entertainment, how many times do we stop just to hand over some food to the deprived on the streetswhen we are reading newspaper, browsing for news about what is going on in this world, how often do we stop to think about actual ways that we can do to help the people who’re suffering from various disastrous situationsin fact, how much have we done to help the people who are in need just around usdreams are certainly beautiful and indispensable in our life, for they give us inspiration and motivation. future plans are certainly necessary, for they provide us with goals and guides. but what is most beautiful and important is an action on a day-to-day basis. in order to realize our dreams or make our future goals realized, we need to put our words into deeds and base our vision on reality. in other words, while human beings should be, first and foremost, idealists and thinkers, we should also be, and all the more, realists and practical doers.

friends,
autumn is a season of harvest. we are happy to see that since the belt and road initiativewas proposed three years ago, the countries along the routes have carried out increasing cooperation in policy communication, facility, trade and asset connectivity and people-to-people e_changes. as a result, early harvest has been fruitful. a growing number of countries and international organizations have participated in the building of the belt and road. china has signed cooperative agreements with more than 30 countries and launched manufacturing and production capacity cooperation with more than 20 countries along the routes. the financial cooperation represented by the asian infrastructure investment bank and the silk road fund is making steady headway. a number of landmark projects are being implemented. people-to-people interactions in the fields of culture, education, science and technology, tourism and commerce are increasing. we should note that outcomes, in terms of speed and scale of the belt and road initiative, have been better than e_pected. now, we have a clearer vision on the prospects of this initiative and are more confident in accomplishing it.
first, we see a broadened consensus on thebelt and road initiative. there is always a process for one to understand a new concept. with thebelt and road initiative, china hopes to share development opportunities with countries along the routes and support the common prosperity of these countries. currently, thebelt and road has mostly completed the planning stage and is taking steps of concrete implementation and sustainable development. there is a wider consensus of the international community that the initiative answers the call of our times for peace and development and conforms to the aspiration of relevant countries to speed up development. it will help advance economic growth along the routes and boost global economic prosperity, helping to maintain regional stability and world peace. this has become the impetus for all parties to join in.
second, we have become more appreciative of the silk road spirit. the ancient silk road covered thousands of miles and e_isted for centuries, leaving behind vivid memories of how people along the routes stood together through thick and thin. these memories symbolize the silk road spirit of peaceful cooperation, openness and inclusivity, mutual learning and mutual benefits. in the past three years, enlightened by this spirit, people have joined hands, given e_pression to their creativeness and enthusiasm, promoted connectivity and reciprocal collaboration. the silk roadspirit has helped guide the building of the belt and roadand encouraged cohesion among all parties involved. to further push the belt and roadproject forward, we need to stick to and carry on the silk roadlegacy.
third, it is increasingly visible that the belt and road initiativeserves the interests of all parties. as the proposer and promoter of the initiative, china insists on a more balanced approach to upholding principles and pursuing interests and calls for a cooperative principle of equality and mutual benefit. through joint efforts, the project is well on its way to making remarkable achievements and delivering tangible benefits to the people along the routes. facts show that the belt and road initiative is open, pragmatic and mutually beneficial. it helps find common interest between china and countries along the routes, while addressing their specific needs. it bears the common aspirations of people in the region to live prosperously and combines the chinese dream with the dreams of those along the routes. all relevant countries need to continue their collaboration of development strategies, seek the common denominator in cooperation and find the point of convergence for all parties. we should make the cake of common interests bigger and bring well-being to all along the belt and road.
fourth, we see greater prospects for win-win cooperation. building the belt and roadbrings all the countries involved into one big family with shared interests and a shared future. the initiative’s positive effects are becoming clearer and the benefits of collaboration along the routes more evident, presenting a picture of heartening prosperity based on joint efforts and shared interests. e_perience says that although the countries along the routes have different national situations and development stages, and thus are faced with different challenges, they have a common aspiration for economic growth, a common interest in coping with risks and challenges and the same vision for common development. if we stick to mutual benefit and cooperation, e_pand scope, raise the levels of cooperation and seize the opportunities presented, we can realize the goal of benefiting all parties concerned.

第一，我们对“一带一路”积累的共识越来越多。人们对任何一个新事物的认识，都会经历一个逐步深化的过程。中国提出“一带一路”倡议，旨在同沿线各国分享中国发展机遇，支持各国共同发展。现在，“一带一路”建设已经初步完成了规划布局，正在向落地生根、精耕细作、持久发展的阶段迈进。国际社会越来越认识到，“一带一路”倡议，顺应了世界和平与发展的时代要求，符合各国加快发展的内在愿望，有助于促进沿线经济建设和全球经济繁荣，有利于维护地区稳定和世界和平。这已经成为各方参与共建“一带一路”的强大动力。
第二，我们越来越体会到丝路精神的弥足珍贵。古老的丝绸之路绵延万里、延续千年，镌刻着沿线各国人民风雨同舟、守望相助、休戚与共的不朽记忆，凝聚形成了“和平合作、开放包容、互学互鉴、互利共赢”的丝路精神。3年来，我们秉持丝路精神，使沿线各国人民心手相连，推进互联互通、促进互惠互利，激发出同心干、一起建的积极性主动性创造性。实践使我们深刻认识到，丝路精神已经成为沿线各国共同建设“一带一路”的鲜明指引，成为凝心聚力、携手合作的定海神针。继续推进“一带一路”建设，仍然需要坚持和大力弘扬丝路精神。
第三，我们越来越感受到共建“一带一路”契合各方利益。作为共建“一带一路”的倡导者和推动者，中国坚持正确义利观，遵循平等、追求互利，进展和成就有目共睹，给沿线各国人民带来的好处实实在在。事实表明，“一带一路”是一个开放务实、互惠互利的合作倡议，统筹了中国与沿线国家具有差异性的利益关切，符合有关各方共同利益，承载着各国人民过上幸福生活的美好愿景，把中国梦同各国人民的美好梦想结合起来。沿线各国继续携手合作，加强发展战略对接，寻求发展“公约数”和各方利益契合点，可以把共同利益的蛋糕做得更大，更好地造福各国人民。
第四，我们越来越看到合作共赢的广阔前景。共建“一带一路”，使沿线各国成为一个大家庭，利益交融、安危与共。“一带一路”建设的积极效应正在显现，沿线各国人民共建共享的美丽画卷正在徐徐展开，其广阔前景令人振奋。实践昭示我们，“一带一路”沿线国家虽然国情不同、发展阶段不同、面临的现实挑战不同，但推动经济增长的愿望相同，应对危机挑战的利益相同，实现共同发展的憧憬相同。只要秉持互利合作理念，把握历史契机，提高合作水平，拓展合作领域，就能实现双赢、多赢、共赢的目标。

the past few decades have witnessed the advancement of comprehensive national strength throughout the world. communicating with more developed countries is crucial for keeping up with the most distinctive science and technology. besides, forming allies with other economy entities allows mutual support. owing to these reasons, globalization has been accelerated. under this circumstance, the unprecedented concept of belt and road has been brought into public focus.
the belt and road initiative gets inspiration from the silk road and pushes forward further development. the route connects eastern asia and europe, encircling the world with one belt, one road strategy.
in my perspective, i value the cultural benefits it brings the most. the process of being unfamiliar with other cultures to showing respect and appreciation requires us to learn and to broaden horizon. take israel as an e_ample, though underestimated in the world war ii, it has proved its strength, illustrating that there is no superiority between different cultures. the nation of jew attaches great importance to education. i once learned that jewish people apply honey on books to tell infants that knowledge is sweet. what can we chinese people learn from them? the fact that we lack talents in high-edge scientific research may lie in that we learn knowledge out of purpose instead of pure pursuit. now that the initiative puts effort in cultural improvement by communicating and learning from other countries. it indicates a giant leap in our mindset.
upon reading the news of china helping kenya in the construction of railways and associating with other asian countries to set up infrastructure investment bank, we chinese citizens feel proud of our motherland. it shows the balance between cooperation with others and our own prosperity. we hand the torch down from generation to generation, only hoping to improve the world for all mankind.

in a very important asia market...we are the pc market leader, both profitable, and with more market share than any other company in asia according to idc.
we are the only company who manufactures our own notebooks -- with 95% of our thinkpads built by our own plants -- under the lenovo flag.
im very proud of what youve accomplished. congratulations.
today i want to thank you for the tremendous hard work that has made us -- the new lenovo -- an independent company -- a close partner with our parent ibm, and now completely united with our other parent -- lenovo.

now let’s discuss who we are to become -- our aspirations as a company -- and our 3-phase plan to achieve these aspirations. to become all that we can be.
first: satisfying our customers
lenovo will deliver the highest customer satisfaction to both businesses and individuals.
second: shareholder value
lenovo will be the company people want to invest in by leading our industry in shareholder returns over the ne_t 2, 5, and 10 years.
third: financial targets
lenovo will double our profit within 3 years, and grow revenue faster than our industry.
fourth: market position
lenovo is committed to improve our market position every year by applying long term investments where we can become #1 or #2 in share or profit, depending on the market.
fifth: is my aspirations for each of us, the people who chose to work at lenovo.
we at lenovo will create an inspiring culture of ethics, performance, teamwork and professional development.
some of these might appear to be big aspirations. i want you to know that we’re committed to them, and that while i e_pect progress every day, every week, these aspirations will take years to fully achieve.
now to get this done we have a broad 3-phase plan. phase one began on december 8th, and will continue well into the beginning of 2006.
ll be at least 12 to 24 months in length.
our third phase will launch when we stand before the world as the it sponsor of the olympics in february of 2006.
so let me speak about phase one:
deliver on the promise of lenovo and on our commitments.
by this i mean we must delight our current customers and retain their business. we must maintain product leadership, sales momentum and market share. we must ensure effective business operations, and positively introduce the position of new lenovo and of our brands. and very importantly, develop our employees and reward e_cellence and performance.
so thats phase one.
e_ecute and hug those that are important to us: our customers, our business partners, our suppliers, and our employees.
in phase two we increase our competitiveness through operational e_cellence, innovation, and branding.
we must continue our focus on operational e_cellence, speed and efficiency, increase our think brand equity and grow lenovo into a worldwide brand. we must build a global innovation and performance culture and reputation.
during this phase we will initiate targeted investments in new products and in new markets.
and then we are ready for the third phase: to drive aggressive, profitable growth.
to do this we will invest to lead in selected market segments.
in each of these three phases we will build on these areas of competitive advantage. this starts with:
our obsession with understanding our customers,
our brands--especially think and lenovo.
our innovation in products, services and software,
our operational e_cellence and efficiency.

the word honor is often associated with admirable career success, brilliant academic achievement, great social contribution and high position.
when speaking of honor, one has images like yang li-wei, jackie chen or learned scholars like the honorable judges here. it is true that these people are worthy of admiration. but how about those who are around us, who contributes to the society in different ways, completing their everyday task with devotions but remain unknown? are they far from honor? should they only clap hands for the people on the stage? shouldn’t they also deserve respect from us? i don’t think so.
honor wears different coats to different eyes. i would like to take miss zhang, a primary school teacher, for e_ample. she has been teaching english for more than 30 years. countless students have learnt the first english letter from her and become interested in this language because of her enlightenment. so many years have passed and miss zhang is still an ordinary primary school teacher without any prize, flowers or honorable titles but in my eyes she is the very person who deserve honor and respect. every time i stand on the winner’s bo_, i couldn’t help thinking of miss zhang. i owe my success in english and my gratitude to her.
just as ale_ander pope said: act well your part, there all honor lies. honor can be found in our every day life and belongs to you, to me and to every ordinary person.
