black faced spoonbill, a type of migratory bird, which spends winter at hong-shu-lin in my city every year. covered with snow-white feathers, it has black legs and a black beak. besides the blacks and whites, an amazing splash of yellow is under its neck. so elegant that i couldn’t help loving it at first sight.
with a big and spoon-shaped beak, it can clasp fishes easily, which makes it a powerful hunter in birds.
however, with human e_pansion and pollution, only around 20__ ones are living all over the world.
like the eleven swan princes in andersen’s fairy tale, the black faced spoonbills have always been struggling to find a tiny rock which can offer them a momentary tranquility. fortunately, they have found one in my beloved home. i would always hold them dearly to my heart and wish they would return with flocks of chicks in the following years, and singing……

imagine a car without a steering wheel. tough to imagine, right? well, actually that’s the image you see if a person has no faith. faith helps to guide us in our lives, encourage us to persist, and give directions when we are lost.
in this peaceful era, our life paths seem to be already well-planned and determined. what we have to do is to follow. yes, we may face different sorts of challenges, but at least they are less harsh when compared to those in the past. we do not need to worry about starving to death, or how to earn enough money to buy food for our siblings and sustain our lives.
it is like driving from a muddy road into a highway. in the muddy road, path, you would say, as it is formed only by crossing on it many times, flattening the ground to form a smoother area so we can pass. the road is so bumpy and rough, with holes here and there and rocks lying all over. when we drive along this road, we have to be very careful, having a firm grip on the steering wheel, ready for a sudden turn or a large boulder that may appear any second. however, when we drive on a highway, everything becomes different. the road is smooth, straight, and visible. since there is no unseen obstacle, we may lower our guard, rela_ a bit, and loosen our grip on the steering wheel. one may even think, if we only have to drive on a smooth straight road like this highway, why would we need a steering wheel?

如馨是怎样学英语的
如馨正式学英语是在两年前，确切地说是从__年3月。当时如馨同妈妈一起去英国看爸爸，这就意味着如馨不得不学英语。当时连26个字母都背不下来的她，开始时有些抵触情绪。她就读于一所很不错的小学，上四年级(year four)。那里的同学和老师对她都很热情和友好，这增强了她的自信心。妈妈给如馨指定了一套系统的学习计划。在第一个月里，如馨掌握了基本的课堂用语和生活用语，并且还掌握了200多个单词。这些单词是按内容进行归类，这样比较容易记。每天放学回家还要看一些动画片。一开始看不懂，她就会根据片中人物表情和手势去猜。
一个月过后，如馨加大了阅读量。在学校里老师要求她每周读一本简单的故事书，而如馨却要读10本有时甚至更多同等程度的故事书。大量的阅读既增加了她的词汇量同时也增强了她的学习英语的自信心。在短短的四个月的时间里，她读完了o_ford reading tree 系列读物的小学三年级的全部书籍。由于如馨学习刻苦努力以及在语言方面所取得的进步，学校多次给她颁发证书，比如， "outstanding effort in english", "working really hard on reading", "being very quick at maths" 等等。在英国一年的学习中，如馨阅读了150本儿童读物并写了几读书笔记。
回国以后，如馨每天坚持读英文小说和看电视英语节目， 如中央十套的《希望英语杂志》和中央九套的新闻节目。与此同时，爸爸每周都买来一些英文原版的优秀影片，全家人一起欣赏。这既锻炼了听力同时也巩固了英语语言基础。这次如馨在比赛中听力方面表现很优秀是与她平时经常听，经常看分不开的。
本届希望英语风采大赛丰富了她的人生，使她受到了一次磨砺，提高了她的心理素质，培养了她的合作意识和竞争意识。但是，这只是一个开始，以后的路会更长，更艰难，希望她会勇敢地去面对。

my sweet home
hi, everyone, my name is jia ru_in. i am from shijiazhuang and in grade 5. today my topic is " my sweet home".
there is an old saying "east and west, home is best." so, we can see how important home is to everybody. i’ve got a sweet home because it is cozy. my family lives in a flat. the sitting room is the biggest and my room is the smallest, but it is a world of my own. the wall is white, the curtain is pretty, the bed is comfortable and the bookshelf is filled with different kinds of books. in the right hand corner is the zheng, a traditional chinese musical instrument, and on the table is the computer. when i feel tired, i can play computer games; and when i feel depressed, playing the zheng can cheer me up. this is my sweet home, where i can find peace and comfort.
i’ve got a sweet home because it is full of love. my dad loves me. he is kind and patient. it is my dad who watches outlook english magazine with me; it is also my dad who is ready to answer my questions. my mom loves me, too. she is considerate and hardworking. every day when i go home from school, the rooms are always clean and tidy. every time when i play out and forget dinnertime, it is also my mom who calls me back with her tender voice, "come home, my little darling, dinner is ready".

俗话说："东好西好不如家好。"从这句话我们可以体会到家对每一个人是多么的重要。我有一个甜美的家，因为我的家既舒适又安逸。我们住的是单元楼房。客厅是最大的一间。我的房间是最小的，但这里是我自己的天地：洁白的墙壁，精美的窗帘，温暖舒服的床和装满各种书籍的书架；在屋子的右手方向放着古筝，一种传统的中国乐器；在桌子上则有一台电脑。当我感到疲劳的时候，可以玩一会儿电脑；而弹奏古筝可以使我摆脱消沉。这就是我甜美的家，在这里我可以找到宁静和舒适。
我有一个甜美的家，因为它充满了爱。爸爸疼爱我。他既和蔼又有耐心。陪我一起看希望英语杂志的是我的爸爸，随时回答我提出的各种问题的也是我的爸爸。我的妈妈也爱我。她不仅考虑周到而且不辞辛劳。每天当我放学回到家里，房间总是既干净又整齐。每当我在外玩耍而忘记吃晚饭时间时，也是我的母亲用她那温柔的声音叫我："宝贝儿，晚饭已经好了，快回家吃饭吧！"

四、赛后感想
中央电视台第四届"希望之星"英语风采大赛结束了，但我的心情却久久不能平静。比赛中所有的参赛选手都一展才华，显示出很强的英语水平。虽然我获得了小学组的冠军，但是我还有很多不足之处需要弥补。
通过这次比赛我收获了很多。它丰富了我的人生经历。它使我结识了许多来自全国各地的小朋友。它给了我一次很好的学习机会。它让我大开了眼界，增长了见识。最重要的一点，它让我的自信心和心理素质得到了很大的提高。得到了冠军并不是我一人的功劳，它包含着许多人的汗水。我和爸爸妈妈付出了，为了这次比赛我们准备了很多。在中央电视台的工作的叔叔阿姨们也付出了许多，是他们在幕后筹备着一切，是他们一直鼓励着我们，他们才是真正的幕后英雄，他们才是最可爱的人！
我要把这比赛的经历作为一个起点，继续努力！
